Proposal
Throughout the world there are basic human rights that every individual is given, sometimes depending on the sovereign state the individual is currently a citizen of. In some countries people aren’t given the basic and fundamental rights that they are entitled to which therefore is a violation of human rights. Our animation is based on the human right entitling everyone to water and sanitation, meaning that everyone must have access to “clean” and “sanitary” water. Our animation will be based on the conditions brought amongst the people in Bolivia. In Bolivia people are given 2 drums full of water everyday, no exception to the varying sizes in family. The people of Bolivia pay 10 dollars a month towards clean water, which is almost half their monthly income. In Bolivia if you are poor and unable to afford water or even live on the outskirts of the city you are given the run-off sewage of the city’s water, which causes many people to have serious health issues. The rain in Bolivia has been privatized and by law you are technically not aloud to stick your tongue out to get a drop of rain water, or further not being aloud to farm rain water.
In our animation we will convey a serious of messages that advertise the need of clean water in Bolivia. Our animation will directly convey that water and sanitation is a basic and fundamental human right which has not been attended to in this state. Our animation will raise awareness of the very scarce conditions these people are forced to live through everyday, and help people come to realization of the very serious fact of spending half your income on water, sometimes not enough water to exercise your everyday needs. This propaganda animation will help people learn to save water and to help these people of Bolivia, by pressuring the U.N to come to action.
There are many different techniques for us to utilize when producing our awareness campaign, we will use a serious of pictures almost like a slide show displaying the conditions the people of Bolivia live under, as well we will contrast to the conditions of Bolivia to those of Canada to help people make a difference. We will pan through the displayed images to give a very slow and real depiction of the situation conveyed.
Animation Script Scene 1:
The beginning of the animation is the title, and the title is depicted in the first scene.
The title of the animation is “The Right to Water and Sanitation”.
Background music will be the sound of light rain depicting both the soft and subtle sounds which would also provoke all kinds of compassionate emotions.
The background will be a picture of rainfall with very dark clouds and sad people.
After 5 seconds of the first scene both Louis, and Scot (the creators of the animation) will appear in the bottom right corner.
Scene 2:
The background will be pictures of water
We will be providing information in text. The text will say “ Some countries around the world don’t get the basic and fundamental right to water that they are entitled to which therefore is a violation of human rights”
The next information which will be displayed will be based around the average death rates due to the lack of sanitary water annually as well as the general living conditions people of Bolivia are exposed to.
This scene will demonstrate the many different factors lack of sanitary water leads to, for example illness.
To provoke strong thoughts and emotion in the viewer we will finish this scene with the example “by the end of the presented animation approximately 3 people have died due to the factors created by lack of sanitary water”.
The end of the scene will have the screen slowly fade out, and seemingly pan into the next scene to the right.
Scene 3
The beginning of the scene will display text saying “the day in the life of a Bolivian worker”
The scene will generally display the hard work Bolivian workers withstand to make their living.
The worker in the scene will be working at a saw mill, sweating and over time, seeming very tired.
In the scene there will be a clock in the top left of the screen on a wall, turning very quickly symbolizing how long he has been working.
The different objects the will be seen moving is the circular saw blade as well as the clock displaying time.
The scene will constantly been panning to the right, connecting scene three to the 4th scene.
Scene 4
Scene 4 is generally displaying the end of the month, of all the hard work displayed in the previous scene. The worker will go up to a front desk surrounded by chairs as well featuring a clock on the wall.
The worker will walk up to the front desk and ask for his pay-cheque. When the worker receives his money it will be shown as two coins, because in a later scene we have to show that he is giving away half of his income for clean water.
He then leaves the office with a sad look on his face as he stares at the two coins in his hand, after the hard work he had just put in the past month.
Scene 5
In this seen the worker is leaving work and heading to a water plant so he can buy fresh and clean water.
He must give up half of his money that he made at work so he can afford fresh and clean water for his family.
When he walks in to the plant he sees a big water tower filled with fresh water. He walks up to the front desk to order his water and gives half of the coins in his hand to the women at the desk. The workers facial expression changes after he has realized he spent half his income on water, and walks out of the office.
Scene 6
When the worker was out of the water plant, he starts to travel back to his home so he can share the water with his family at the dinner table.
After dinner he noticed that the container of water was lower then halfway. That proves that water is very precious and expensive in certain places.
So after dinner the worker goes to sleep and has to wake up the next day for more hard labor so he can make money to purchase fresh water for his family.
